Molecular Immunology and Cellular Development

My research program focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying immune defense and cellular development in aquatic organisms, with particular emphasis on:

  • Molecular immunology of bivalves: Characterization of antimicrobial peptides (defensins), neuroendocrine-immune regulatory networks, and signaling pathways (NF-κB, EGFR, opioid growth factor receptor) involved in host defense and wound healing in the freshwater pearl mussel (Hyriopsis schlegelii)

  • Cellular development and pearl sac formation: Molecular regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation during pearl sac formation, including the roles of BTG1, calmodulin, and cathepsin genes

  • Genetic improvement of aquaculture species: Selective breeding, genomic characterization, and marker-assisted selection in Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis) and other economically important aquatic species

  • Integrated aqua-agriculture systems: Development of novel ecological polyculture models combining aquaculture with crop cultivation (e.g., turtle-lotus integrated systems)
