Wanchang Zhang, Member of the Communist Party of China, is an Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor at the Department of Aquatic Science, School of Life Sciences, Nanchang University. He received his PhD from Jiangxi Agricultural University, completed postdoctoral training at the National University of Singapore, and worked as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. He was selected into the Jiangxi Provincial "Ganpo Outstanding Talents" Program for Young Academic Leaders in Universities and awarded the "Camphor Young Scholar" under Nanchang University’s Three-Hundred Talents Program. He serves as a Committee Member of the Ornamental Fish Branch of the China Society of Fisheries, Director of the Jiangxi Society of Fisheries, and Distinguished Science and Technology Commissioner of Jiangxi Province. His research and teaching focus on genetic breeding of aquatic animals and genetic dissection of vital economic traits. He has presided over and participated in more than ten national and provincial research projects including programs supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Key R&D Program of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangxi Province, the Jiangxi Agricultural Industry Technology System, and joint research initiatives for Jiangxi fishery seed industry. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Science Advances and Genetics Selection & Evolution, and is a core member of the team honored with the 24th China May 4th Medal for Outstanding Youth Collective.
