Hengyi Xu, Ph.D., Professor at the State Key Laboratory of Food Science and Resources at Nanchang University, and Distinguished “Ganjiang Scholar” Professor at Nanchang University. He also serves as a Doctoral Supervisor in multiple disciplines including Food Science and Engineering, Bioengineering, Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Statistics, and Biology and Medicine. Professor Xu has been recognized through several prestigious talent programs, including the Jiangxi “Jinggang Star” Youth Scientist, Jiangxi Academic and Technical Leader in Key Disciplines, and the “Shennong Youth Elite” by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
He holds or has held several key academic and professional roles, such as Committee Member of the Food Hygiene Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Youth Committee Member of the Chinese Society of Toxicology, Youth Committee Member of the Microecology Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Standing Council Member of the Jiangxi Society for Microbiology, and Standing Committee Member of the 6th Jiangxi Health Toxicology Professional Committee and the 3rd Health Inspection Professional Committee of the Jiangxi Preventive Medicine Association. Additionally, he serves as an editorial board member for several international journals and as a peer reviewer for nearly a hundred international publications. Professor Xu is also a regular evaluator for research grants including the Swiss National Science Foundation, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and various provincial and municipal science funds and awards. He acts as a technical investigator for intellectual property and an expert in multiple advisory committees in Jiangxi Province, including the Jiangxi Provincial Intellectual Property Protection Expert Committee and the Science and Technology Expert Pool for Drugs, Cosmetics, and Medical Devices under the Jiangxi Provincial Medical Products Administration.
Professor Xu’s research focuses on the exploration and application of probiotics, as well as the detection and control of pathogenic bacteria. His work spans interdisciplinary areas such as food and agricultural product processing and safety control, nutrition and health, and biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. He has led or completed 7 national-level projects and more than 10 provincial-level projects. To date, he has published over 200 papers as first or corresponding author and has been granted more than 30 national invention patents as the first inventor. He has received 4 provincial/ministerial first prizes (including one as the first accomplisher) and 1 second prize. Professor Xu has also been honored with titles such as “Outstanding Innovation and Entrepreneurship Mentor” in the China “Internet+” University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Excellent Mentor of Qianhu College at Nanchang University, and Outstanding Undergraduate Supervisor of Nanchang University.
