He was a Visiting Ph.D. at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He conducted postdoctoral research at Fudan University and the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Germany, respectively. His research focuses on aquatic ecology and plant ecology, with particular emphasis on:
(1) Adaptation strategies of aquatic plants and ecosystem functions in the context of global change
(2) Effects of multiple environmental pressures on the structure and function of freshwater ecosystems
(3) Interactions between aquatic plants and animals
(4) Restoration of submerged vegetation and improvement of habitat quality for overwintering waterbirds
He published one translated book Wetland Ecology: Principles and Conservation (Second Edition)
He teaches three undergraduate courses: Wetland Ecology, Restoration Ecology, and College Biology.
